Cheeky point: read GBShaw's proposal carefully - wouldn't this mean all the benny-recipients would be prime material for 'assisted suicide', 'poor refugees' and dinghy-drivers included?
The question: has there been any voice at all from any imam or islamic savant about 'assisted suicide' being acceptable for muslims? I've not done any research, but it seems to me that we ought know if only Christians need to be shouted down for 'religious interference' or if other religions might also share that fate. Perhaps muslim doctors would refuse to apply this 'law'? We should be told!
First point - Certainly looks like life on benefits would be out. But illegals have some here to get going, legally or otherwise, not least to pay off the traffickers. The real problem is that governments of both colours have found it convenient to put our indigenous underclass on the dole rather than force them back into work.
Second - both Islam and Judaism bar euthanasia/suicide. I should have thought that goes for Christianity, but I can't remember this Archbishop of Canterbury addressing basic theology.
Forget Welby - he'll wriggle and squirm and never take a stand! yes, suicide is considered to be a sin in Christianity an judaism, but given the heroic suicide attackers with their vests, I'm not so sure about islam. In any case - would muslim doctors follow the law and help suicidal patients or not? Would they support suicidal muslim patients?
Sadly, i have no idea what Christian doctors would say or do, not least because our MSM have never investigated, for fear of being made to look fusty and uncool b y their oh-so-clever secularist 'friends' ...
An assisted dying law is not all that bad. I have seen so many people suffer immense pain and suffering for long periods of time. Tough on the individual and on the family.
The problem occurs when the government gets overly involved. Then there is the question of how much one can trust their government in the future. We see governments flip-flop on many issues.
So I guess it comes down to the time that the decision has to be made and the current law on the books.
Disregarding any fear of government going batshit crazy and killing off seniors, I am in favor of the legal opportunity to make a dying decision. Without it, I would take a trip to the desert after saying goodby to my family.
One cheeky point and one question!

The vest bombers are about jihad, not suicide, though some Muslin clerics say they are mistaken.
The Kill Bill excuses conscientious objectors.

The worry is when the government takes charge, as in Canada. Palliative care, painkillers, hospices etc can offer quality of life.
