Monbiot v Brand - the sound-off test
George Monbiot, a columnist for The Guardian newspaper, has recently criticised entertainer-turned-political-vlogger Russell Brand.
I’d like to invite you to arbitrate with a game my wife and I sometimes used to play while watching TV. We would turn the sound off and dub the speakers we saw on the screen with non-verbal vocalisations, following their rhythm and using pitch and emphasis as we saw appropriate.
There may have been drink taken.
But amid the laughter it showed that what people say in interviews is largely performative; the words hardly matter, so you may as well substitute alien-language rubbish as we did.
So please look at these two videos - maybe just a minute or two each - and decide who you would rather follow on a regular basis. I’ll return to this pair again; first, your impressions?
Vocalise if you like!
